Projects
At Via Berlin, the form follows the question.
Our work takes many forms, shaped by the question, the people, and the context we work in. A full-scale music theatre production at a festival. An analogue or digital game. A tailor-made performance that opens a roundtable. An installation that doubles as a field research environment. Whatever the form, the intention is the same: to create an experience that opens new perspectives, generates knowledge, and stays with people long after it ends.
Explore the different forms our projects can take below.
Immersive installations
We create spaces you can enter. Through image, sound, story, interaction and participation, our installations transform complex questions into physical and emotional experiences that invite exploration.
Games and LARP
Sometimes understanding begins by taking part. Through participatory games and LARP (Life Action Role Play), participants step into dilemmas, roles, and relationships, making choices and experiencing different perspectives from within.
Context programmes
We create tailor made context programmes around societal themes, around performances, or public research events, combining artistic interventions, conversations and participatory experiences.
Each element opens another way into the central question; emotionally, intellectually and through lived experience.
Artistic Interventions
Small in scale or reaching thousands, our artistic interventions invite people to encounter a question rather than simply think about it. They can stand alone or become part of research, education, conferences or larger artistic programmes.
Tailor-Made Performances
We create new performances specifically around your question, research or event. Designed for conferences, round tables or public programs, they bring a theme into the room emotionally, creating a shared starting point for what follows or a heartfelt closing.
Research
From Experience to Insight
We design artistic experiences that also function as research environments in the real world. We can help organisations explore questions around behaviour, changing perspectives, difficult experiences and social dynamics, through observation, reflection, artistic interventions and creating qualitative- and arts-based research.
Research can be embedded directly into an artistic intervention or designed around it. Depending on the question, we can develop and conduct the research ourselves or collaborate with scientific partners to create a more extensive research design.
For us, research should never be a one-way process. We believe participants should have access to what their participation has helped uncover. That’s why we translate research findings back into accessible and engaging forms, sharing insights with participants and wider audiences beyond academic reports.
This allows us not only to create an experience, but also to explore what happens within it, what it reveals and what may begin to shift.
Music Theater
Via Berlin has developed a distinctive form of music theatre in which live music, acting and storytelling are inseparably intertwined. Rather than accompanying the story, the music becomes a dramatic voice of its own — carrying emotion, tension and meaning alongside the performers.
This unique theatrical language has been at the heart of Via Berlin since its foundation and has grown into large-scale productions performed in theatres and at festivals in the Netherlands and internationally. Our first trilogy was awarded the Charlotte Köhler Prize in 2014, recognising the artistic signature that continues to shape our work today.
Each production creates its own world, but always starts from the same ambition: to make music theatre that is visceral, layered and deeply human.
